Control is a very generic term which can be used in a wide variety of situations.

 

In general terms, control is the ability to express authority over something in any way.

 

Control can be used in any Point of View and in reference to any Environmental Object or the Environment itself.

 

Control can be used to decrease, increase, or change the Environment or something in it in some way.

Control differs from leverage in that control can be used to decrease, alter, or increase something.

 

Control can be used in both a physical and a non-physical context.

 

In a physical context:

a.Control can be used to decrease, alter or increase any move in either a defensive or offensive context.

b.Control is often used specifically to refer to the act of regulating the amount of contact used against a training partner when executing self-defense techniques or during freestyle. This is done to prevent injury and build harmony and trust among training partners.
