Physical Leverage

Physical Leverage is a distinct form of leverage, which is limited to leverage accomplished via physical means.

 

Physical Leverage is a generic term and is not limited just to advantage created using a lever and fulcrum - but rather any physical means of creating advantage.

 

Physical Leverage is commonly used to set up subsequent strikes by exposing Vital Targets, while simultaneously keeping advantage over the opponent(s).

 

Physical Leverage is embodied in the tiger concept of Kenpo.

Physical Leveraging forces always contain the following points:

a.Fulcrum point - the point of support and rotation

b.Resistance point - the point that the leveraging action is applied to

c.Power point - the point that the force is applied to in order to create the leveraging action

 

Physical Leveraging systems are always composed of the following components:

a.Fulcrum - the support and rotation point

b.Lever - the rigid structure used across the fulcrum to create the leveraging force via the resistance and power points

 

Physical Leveraging can be divided into the following categories:

a.Fulcrum point is between the resistance and power point(s) (ex. scissors)

b.Resistance point is between the power and fulcrum point(s) (ex. wheelbarrow)

c.Power point is between the resistance and fulcrum point(s) (ex. tongs)

 

Physical Leverage can be created by any set of components in one's environment against any other component(s) in one's environment.

 

Outside the context of advantage through a lever and fulcrum:

a.Physical Leverage can be created through any moveor series of moves that create any type of advantage over one's opponent(s).

b.Physical Leverage does not necessarily translate into physical contact.  One can gain advantage by changing position, without contact.

 

Physical Leverage can be created by:

a.Improving your situation

b.Diminishing your opponent's situation

c.Both simultaneously
