1) |
This maneuver is a specific method of executing a check. It differs from the standard check in that it does not make contact, and is rather positioned in such a way as to derive a similar effect as the standard check.
The cover is often referred to as a check. This is because covers are checks. They are just a specific type of check. But, referring to a cover as a check, although correct, is less specific in nature. |

This foot maneuver is one of the standard curriculum basics of the system. From this, the maneuver is executed by stepping the front foot it to the opposite side of the centerline, followed by a shift in-place to face the opposite direction. This maneuver is completed not only to change direction, but also to purposely create more distance from one's obscure zone. In this scenario, if the maneuver were executed using the back foot, distance would be decreased to the obscure zone, causing one to step closer to the unknown - commonly referred to as: "stepping into the unknown."
This maneuver can be executed to any angle and is not limited to the 180 degree shift of the curriculum basic. It also may be used to close distance, although it is not recommended to do so in a combat situation, due to the fact that one would be closing distance into the unknown.
Examples of the this maneuver being executed using the varying characteristics discussed, may be found in the forms of the system. |
