Counter

Opposite of, opposition to, and/or contrary to any physical or psychological stimuli.

2)

Any offensive maneuver done in-sync with (or close timing to) an offensive move by an opponent, while simultaneously deflecting or evading the opponent's initial offensive move(s).

Comments:

Generally speaking, this is the layman's usage of the term. In the most basic terms, it means opposite.

2)

This is the more martial application of the term.

 

In a general sense, this term refers to retaliation of some sort.

 

Most ofthen used in physical scenarios, this term can be used equally well in physiological situations.

Example(s):

In a tournament sparring situation, the practitioners start at counter positions within the ring.

2)

The opponent throws a punch, and the defender evaded and countered the opponent.
