Depth Deception

An idiom referring to a Strategic Ploy where the opponent(s) become conditioned to believe there is a specific range or gap and then using Deceptive Action to change that range or gap for offensive purposes.

Comments:

This strategy is typically employed through constant (and seemingly normal) motion that subconsciously conditions the opponent(s) into believing that there is a gap outside the Critical Distance range. This is often accomplished via probing arm maneuvers (e.g. strikes, feints, and/or touches) accompanied with foot maneuvers. Then when the conditioning is deemed complete the foot maneuvers are altered slightly to Close the Gap in such a way as to place the opponent(s) within Contact Penetration range without alerting the opponent(s) to the change in range.

Depth Deception differs from Compressing Distance in that Depth Deception usually Close the Gap in one (1) motion, where Compressing Distance does it in stages.

Depth Deception is employed against the opponent(s) by using Reactionary Anticipation and Reactionary Set-up.

Depth Deception is a variation on Momentary Conditioning.
