Check

Any move that controls, hampers, hinders, restrains, obstructs, inhibits, nullifies, and/or prevents movement.

Simply put, a category is a complete group related items

Checks are more effective at or on the joints of an opponent, because they have the effect of minimizing an opponent's ability to create leverage.

 

Checks differ from covers in that checks hinder potential future motion through the use of contact - even though the two terms are commonly used interchangeably.

 

Checks are one of the physically distinctive and innovative properties of Kenpo. There are a vast number of martial arts systems that do not commonly employ checks.

 

The importance of checking cannot be overstated. Checking is one of the key tenants of Kenpo. The numerous types of checks are an illustration of their importance.

 

The practitioner is encouraged to become familiar with each type of check and its application.
