Controlled Response

An idiom describing the curtailing of one's responsive move(s) in an effort to prevent inadvertently providing (an) opponent(s) with any sort of advantage.

Comments:

 

In other words, a Controlled Response is essentially the attempt to create the most perfect response to a given situation.

 

A rash, reckless, hasty, unsafe, or uncontrolled response could inadvertently give the opponent an advantage.
