Combat Awareness is essentially one's state of being before, during, or after a potential fight.
Combat Awareness can be broken down into the following states: a.Not Ready - or oblivious. In this state, the practitioner is not aware of their situation/environment and is easily and usually taken off-guard. One should try to never be in this state. A layman or non-practitioner might usually be caught in this state. b.Ready - or attentive. In this state, the practitioner is aware of their situation/environment, but is still relaxed and normal. This is the state that a seasoned practitioner should maintain on a normal basis. Always ready and aware to act, but not overly focused. c.Focused - or alert. In this state, the practitioner is totally focused on their situation/environment, and is anticipating, engaging in, or just concluding conflict. This is a heightened state and can only be maintained for a limited period of time, and therefore can't be one's normal state of being. This state is usually obtained at the first sign of a conflict and maintained until a short time after the conflict has ended - at which point, the practitioner should return to the Ready state.
The level of one's Combat Awareness can be the determining factor between success or failure in a combat situation. |
