This term refers to only one main characteristic of the overall checking maneuver. Because of this, the same checking maneuver can potentially be referred to in different ways or through a combination of characteristics.
Area Checks have the advantage of effecting wide regions of your opponent(s) at one time, but have the disadvantage of typically having to be employed at Close Range, due to the nature of the check.
Environment, range, and the positions of you and your opponent(s) have the largest effect on which type of weapon(s) can be employed for checking.
The type of weapon and/or positioning of a weapon greatly effects the amount of area and number of weapons on the opponent that can be checked at one time. |
Example(s): |
|
A check using the entire forearm and employed horizontally across the front of a standing opponent's body, effecting either or both of their arms, demonstrates an Area Check. |
