Any check that is creating by a temporary pressure against an opposing surface. |

This term refers to only one main characteristic of the overall checking maneuver. Because of this, the same checking maneuver can potentially be referred to in different ways or through a combination of characteristics.
A Patting Check differs from a Pressing Check in that the Pressing Check uses continuous pressure to enact the check while the Patting Checks pressure is very temporary. But one could argue that a Patting Check is just a variation of a Pressing Check.
Technically speaking this is a method of contouring.
