Any check that is creating by applying pressure against an opposing surface, using a line of action, with the intent to nullify the delivery of an opponent's weapon(s). |

this term refers to only one main characteristic of the overall checking maneuver. Because of this, the same checking maneuver can potentially be referred to in different ways or through a combination of characteristics.
A Pinning Check differs from a Sliding Check, in that the pinning check maintains the same relative position on the opposing surface.
A Pinning Check differs from a Pressing Check, in that the pinning check uses a line of action. But, the terms are often used interchangeably.
