Any check that is creating by applying pressure against an opposing surface, using a line of action, with the intent to nullify the delivery of an opponent's weapon(s).

this term refers to only one main characteristic of the overall checking maneuver. Because of this, the same checking maneuver can potentially be referred to in different ways or through a combination of characteristics.

A Pinning Check differs from a Sliding Check, in that the pinning check maintains the same relative position on the opposing surface.

A Pinning Check differs from a Pressing Check, in that the pinning check uses a line of action.  But, the terms are often used interchangeably.
