Typically a weapon is executed to create an Angle of Contact that produces the maximum desired effect at the Point of Contact.
More often than not, the Angle of Contact is perpendicular to the target surface. But, It is important to note that this is not always true.
Methods of Delivery where a non-perpendicular Angle of Contact is typically best include: d.Whipping
Position and/or type of target chosen can dictate a non-perpendicular Angle of Contact.
Sophisticated moves commonly dictate a non-perpendicular Angle of Contact.
An Angle of Contact follows an Angle of Delivery and precedes (optionally) an Angle of Retraction.
Angle of Contact is a generic term and can refer to either an Angle of Incidence or an Angle of Prevention. |
Example(s): |
|
|
A right inward block to the outside of an opponent's left straight punch, with the intent of creating an Angle of Deflection, would cause an Angle of Contact to the outside of the opponent's left arm, above the elbow. Note, that the Angle of Contact would not be perpendicular to the opponent's arm, if done properly. But, your arm (on a Vertical Plane), in relation to the opponent's attack (on a Horizontal Plane), would be perpendicular. |
