Path

A route through space along which something travels.

2)

Any move that is delivered utilizing the entire length of the weapon.

Comments:

Like line, path has both generic and specific definitions.

 

Path can be used to generically describe the route of any form of travel (like line) - as in the first definition; or it can be used to describe a very specific type of travel - as in the second definition.

 

The terms path and line are often used interchangeably, but technically are different, depending upon usage.

This definition is the layman usage of the term. And as such, novice practitioners relate more intuitively with this definition.

 

Path differs from angle, in that path refers to the route of a move.

 

The area between the outer boundaries of action form Geometric Paths, as opposed to the outer boundaries of action, which form Geometric Lines.

Path is often used to refer to the route an entire weapon utilizes during travel. In this context, it is closely tied to the Zone Concept of Directional Movement.

 

Path differs from line, in that path refers to the entire length of a weapon being used in its delivery.

 

The Squeegee principle is a direct result of analysis of paths and their application.

 

In the context of defensive moves:

a.implementing this method creates greater Margin for Error- thus allowing for greater protection.

b.paths tend to be better for defensive moves

 

In the context of offensive moves:

implementing this method generally creates an increased impact zone of the weapon with the target, causing a decreased amount of pressure per square inch on the intended target - thus causing a possible lessening of the effect of the strike.

 

Like lines, paths fall into one of the following categories:

a.Linear

b.Circular

The execution of a punch is an example of delivering a strike on a line - the execution of a forearm strike is an example of delivering a strike on a path.
