The Stages of Range concept is basically the breaking down of distance between the practitioner and an opponent into definable categories, so that each category can be independently experimented with and thought through. Doing this allows the practitioner to better analyze the available possibilities of defense and offense within each category.
A simple way to describe the Stages of Range concept is an analysis of different types of range for each available weapon, along with the analysis of how to use that range. In other words, Stages of Range is made up of weapon availability, plus range analysis, plus target analysis.
The Stages of Range concept works hand-in-hand with the concept of Dimensional Stages of Action.
Each category within the Stages of Range concept has its own Dimensional Stages of Action, even though there is often some overlap between each category.
When working with the Stages of Range concept, the practitioner should also consider: b.perspective (angles) c.Range (distance), in general (Long Range, Medium Range, Short Range)
Stages of Range is most typically viewed from a micro perspective. From this perspective, each available weapon is considered. In this subset, one includes each available weapon independantly, and only considers the space and range pertaining to that weapon.
Stages of Range can also be viewed from a macro perspective. From this perspective, the entire space within the combat arena and the range of all the immediately available weapons are considered, simultaneously.
