Double Factor

A more advanced method of blocking where the opposite limb is used as a transitory block (for the purpose of filling Dead Space) until the primary block can be enacted.

Comments:

When the practitioner first learns blocking via the basics, they are taught the embryonic method. This is done primarily to highlight and instruct them on the fundamental characteristics and information needed to begin the Stages of Internalization of those maneuvers and methods (see By-the-Numbers for more information). But as the practitioner progresses, this method is used to supplant the original teachings as a more practical and effective practice, when available.

This concept is used in conjunction with the concepts of Return Motion and Reverse Motion.

This concept is used in conjunction with the concepts of Minor and Major.

Double Factor blocks can be striking blocks or parrying blocks. Regardless, the Double Factor portion of the block as a whole tends to be the inward version (i.e. Inward Striking Block) not the outward version (i.e. Outward Parry). This is primarily due to the physical structure of the human body favoring one over the other.

The actual Double Factor portion of the block as a whole is considered a Transitional Move.
