Return Motion is distinguishable by simply retraction back to its Point of Origin after the delivery of the maneuver or method using any desired path. This is in contrast to Reverse Motion must take the exact path back to the same Point of Origin. Therefore all Reverse Motion is Return Motion, but not all Return Motion is Reverse Motion.
Return Motion is commonly used to compound motion by eliminating any Wasted Motion on the return path to the Point of Origin. This can be accomplished by inserting (a) defensive or offensive maneuver(s) within the motion of the retraction.
From the perspective of Point of Origin, Return Motion is distinguishable from Opposite Motion in that Return Motion returns back to its Point of Origin and Opposite Motion does not have that same requirement.
This concept can be applied to the saying: "never make a cock a separate motion" and the concept of Economy of Motion.
