Reverse Motion


The concept that motion can take the exact path back to its Point of Origin after execution.

 

Comments:

 

Reverse Motion is distinguishable by retracing the exact path of retraction back to its Point of Origin after the delivery of the maneuver or method. This is in contrast to Return Motion which does not have to take the exact path back, but does return to the same Point of Origin.

 

Reverse Motion is distinguishable from Opposite Motion in that Reverse Motion must take the exact path back to its Point of Origin, and Opposite Motion is more akin to Return Motion.

 

Reverse Motion is commonly considered the easiest form of retraction to the Point of Origin due to the fact that the path taken on the delivery of the maneuver is typically clear for retraction and without any obstacles. Although it could also be construed as the least economical, due to the fact that the returning motion is not used - and therefore potentially wasted (i.e. Wasted Motion).

 

This concept can be applied to the saying: "never make a cock a separate motion" and the concept of Economy of Motion.
