Elimination of Wasted Motion is one of the primary principles of American Kenpo.
Wasted Motion is the antithesis of Economy of Motion.
Generally speaking, Wasted Motion is any extraneous motion that does not help enhance a maneuver or method. This description could also potentially be expanded to motion that detracts from said maneuver or method.
Wasted Motions can be intentional or unintentional in nature.
Wasted Motion should not be confused with motions that do not physically enhance a maneuver or method, but do enhance the overall intent. This would include methods such as: or other methods that enhance in non-obvious ways.
