Compressing Distance


An idiom referring to a Strategic Ploy, which has as its intent to covertly put an opponent within the  practitioner's Critical Distance - by slowly, steadily, and deliberately Closing the Gap.

 

Comments:

 

Compressing Distance is intended to take the  opponent off-guard by placing the opponent within the practitioner's Critical Distance, without the opponent realizing the situation, until it's too late to defend effectively.

 

Compressing Distance is most typically employed in tournament freestyle.  But, can also be effectively employed in combat.

 

Compressing Distance differs from Depth Deception in that it uses a more stepped approach to accomplish the same outcome.

Using a series of forward and reverse shuffles which slowly Closing the Gap until the practitioner's Critical Distance is reached, demonstrates one way of Compressing Distance.
