An easy way to understand Position of Opportunity is when you (or your opponent) sees an opening to implement a specific maneuver or method based upon current positioning.
Position of Opportunity differs from Position Recognition in that Position of Opportunity is a specific type of Position Recognition - one where a (typically single) maneuver or method will give a distinct advantage (or potential victory) over the opponent(s). Although frequently the terms can be used interchangeably.
Position of Opportunity is most commonly associated with the implementation of a lock on the opponent. In this context, the common refrain is: "locks are executed from a position of opportunity".
Like most concepts, a Position of Opportunity is a good thing for you to see and use, but a bad thing to provide to your opponent(s). See Point of View for more detail on this subject. |
