To change from a one (1) specific stance to another while remaining relatively in the same location.

In-Place Stance Change can be as simple as a slight rotational change (i.e. from neutral bow to forward bow), depth change (i.e. neutral bow to cat), or height change (i.e. neutral bow to wide kneel); or a total switch from one side to another (to either the same stance type or different stance).

Commonly, In-Place Stance Change is used in the context of generating power. For simple examples (from least to most):

•shifting from a neutral bow to a forward bow adds non only the element of torque (Body Rotation) but also weight and alignments (potentially back-up mass or more torque)

•shifting from a neutral bow to a twist stance adds more torque (and the same other elements) to the first example, but also adds in the potential for gravitational marriage

•In-Place Stance Switching can be used to generate even more power either during the rotational element (torque) or the settling element (back-up mass / gravitational marriage) of the maneuver

In-Place Stance Change differs from In-Place Transition in that In-Place Stance Change refers specifically to the stance itself and ignores the rest of the body. Another way to think about this difference is that In-Place Stance Change is a subset of (or could be a part of) an In-Place Transition.
