Comments:

1)

A tip is used to further differentiate sub-levels of a particular belt rank.

 

The standard number of tips per rank is:

a.one tip - for colored belts below brown

b.three tips - for brown belt

c.ten tips - for black belt

 

The standard size of a tip is:

a.1" - for tips not representing a multiple of 5 (degrees)

b.5" - for tips representing a multiple of 5 (degrees)

 

The standard position of a tip is:

a.1" from the bottom of the belt

b.1/4" between tips - 1" between a 5 (degrees) and any other tip

 

The standard color of a tip is:

a.the next belt rank's color - (except for black belt)

b.red - for black belt

 

Tips are typically made of tape or cloth.

 

The number of tips in the colored belts is the one standard which has the most deviation. A large number of instructors like to give out more than one tip at these levels, to give the practitioner the sense of advancement or achievement more frequently.

The tip of an Environmental Object is typically used for:

Surface Concentration - Thrusting, Hammering, Roundhousing, Hooking

Scraping - Clawing, Raking, Slicing

Whipping

Tip, in this context, is equivalent to creating an Angle of Disturbance to the point where the opponent looses balance.

A tip can also be referred to as constructive criticism.
