Brother/Sister Moves

An idiom describing a subset of the Family Grouping concept - which relates the second, (typically) unlike moves of a Self-defense Technique that are executed from the same initial Mother/Father Moves.

Comments:

Brother/Sister Moves, in and of themselves, are typically not related in any way, but a relationship is drawn because of the fact that the moves are executed from the same Point of Origin - i.e. the position that their common Mother/Father Moves concluded.

A Sister Move is a move, and any subsequent moves, that is/are executed from the initial Father Move.

A Brother Move is a move, and any subsequent moves, that is/are that is executed from the initial Mother Move.

See Family Grouping for more information on this subject.

Example(s):

Situation: The opponent executes a right straight punch.  In response, the practitioner steps forward into a left neutral bow with a left inward block to the outside of the opponent's right arm, while their right arm hangs naturally at their side.  In this situation, the left arm would be the father move (the initial defensive move), while the right arm would be the mother move (the opposite arm's position).  Continuing onto the next set of moves, if the practitioner were to execute a strike with the blocking arm, this would constitute a sister move.  But, if the practitioner were to execute a strike with the opposite arm, this would constitute a brother move.

Derivation:

The concept of Brother/Sister derives from the idea of a family, were the brother and sister are conceived from the father and the mother.
