A direction toward the exterior in relation to a particular point. |

In American Kenpo, outward is the direction in relation to the vertical centerline of the body being on the same side of the executing limb. In some martial arts, this is the opposite, where outward means to the opposing side of the front vertical centerline. In American Kenpo, this alternate direction would be called inward.
Most commonly, this term is used in relation to the dimension of width. |
