Directional Zone Principle

A theory about direction that uses the self as the point of reference when determining direction.

Comment(s):

Horizontal zones are: Front (aka straight ahead), Back (aka behind), Left (Flank), Right (Flank), Left Front (Flank), Right Front (Flank), Left Rear (Flank), Right Rear (Flank)

Vertical zones are: Upper, Straight (Middle), Lower

Combining the two zone arrives at the complete reference around the body

Example(s):

Used in relation to the clock principle, a right, hooking punch approaching at a diagonally, downward angle from 10:30 would be referred to as approaching from the upper, left, front flank.
