Pinning (Blocks)

A distinct category of Blocks which is physically distinguishable by using contact to effect the maneuver.

Comments:

This is the second most common type of passive block. By passive it is meant that the positioning of the block is to thwart future motion, not react to it. In this case, the positioning is specifically used to hinder or prevent future motion.

Although the technical term for this category of block is pinning, it is more commonly referred to as a check.

Pinning, in this case, refers to the more general meaning - to isolate or immobilize.

Pinning blocks employ either a pushing or vise-like methodology to enact the block.

Pinning blocks can be effected with any extremity of the body, and in certain circumstances, effected with other components of the body, or the body itself.

Pinning blocks can be from front weapons, rear weapons, and/or a combination of weapons simultaneously.

Pinning blocks can be effected against a specific potential weapon and/or a general zone of protection.

Once a pinning block loses contact, it is considered a cover.

A pinning block is considered an applied form of blocking.

Derivation:

Pinning blocks derive their name from the fact that the contact pins the potential weapon in place, and thus hindering it.
