Buoyancy

An idiom describing a method of unsettling the stance through the use of extremity and/or breathe manipulation to generate a feeling of mobility, lightness, and/or relaxation.

Comments:

Buoyancy is essentially the opposite of a settle in both stance (e.g. rise vs drop) and breath (e.g. inhale vs exhale)..

Buoyancy differs from bounce in that it has a horizontal component when enacted with foot maneuvers.

Buoyancy differs from float in that buoyancy is even more subtle in nature and is more commonly used for disengagement.

Buoyancy can be thought of as a lesser degree of flying. Even though there is no real external physical indication of flying, the intention and effect is toward the flying end of the spectrum, rather than the settling end.

Buoyancy is commonly used during an Angle of Departure, but this is not a requirement.

Buoyancy can be used during combat, but like any method, should be used with knowledge and intent.

The feeling of buoyancy is created through the relaxation of the muscles while inhaling - supplying the the brain with new oxygen to aid in the overall maneuver.

To visualize this term in relation to a spectrum of degree of flying (e.g. strictly vertical Body English):

Settle (Drop)

Stationary (none)

Buoyancy
