Upward (Block)

A specific type of Striking block that is physically distinguishable by the upward direction (in relation to the practitioner) of its movement in order to effect the block.

Comments:

Upward blocks travel from the lower part of the practitioner's body to the upper part, irrelevant to the orientation of their body - thus upward in relation to the practitioner, not the environment.

Upward blocks are used to cover the entire upper zone of the body including the head and shoulder areas.

The concluding orientation of the block should be upward at an angle, not parallel to the ground. This is to create and angle of deflection not an angle of incidence with the oncoming weapon.

Also, the concluding orientation of the block should be angled forward and away from the body, not parallel to it. In other words, at the top, furthest point of the invisible box on the opposite side to the blocking arm.

By definition, upward blocks employ a thrusting method of execution.

Derivation:

This block derives its name from the fact that it travels in a upward direction.
