Real Deal Phase

An idiom describing a specific method of analyzing a Base Move - where variations to the Base Move are explored and analyzed to make it more effective and/or useful in specific realistic environmental and/or situational settings.

Comments:

Actually not "officially" part of the phases of analysis of a Base Move.  But, if one were to fit it into the concept, it could be called Phase 4.

Since the Self-Defense Techniques of Kenpo were created years ago, there have been innumerable practitioners exploring and experimenting upon their application and the information they contain.  In that time, many practitioners have found numerous variations to the Ideal Phase of a technique that would improve its effectiveness in specific situations or just in a general sense.  This phase of analysis is a way of encouraging each practitioner to internalize the Ideal Phase - but personalize it.  This is done by exploring how others have varied the execution of the technique, compared with how you, through the phases of analysis, varied the technique in the same situation.

Any and all variations to the Base Move are acceptable, as long as they adhere to the rules and principles of motion, and should be analyzed without judgement to superiority and/or inferiority - but, rather as an exercise of examining possibilities.

This phase of analysis encourages the practitioner to:

a.Explore how others have varied the Base Move of a technique

b.Develop their own variations to the Base Move through experimentation and analysis

c.Compare and contrast each variation

d.Develop one's personal style, by choosing which variations best suit your abilities, goals, and desires

This phase of analysis does not encourage the practitioner to:

a.Supplant the Ideal Phase with a variation

b.Forget the Ideal Phase, What if Phase, or Formulation Phase of analysis

c.Not learn the information contained in the Ideal Phase

d.Draw superior and/or inferior references to a particular variation

This phase of analysis should be done in as realistic an environment as possible.

Derivation:

This term gets its name from its intended goal, to explore commonly excepted variations to a Base Move, that can make it more effective in certain realistic situations.
