The Hammering Inward Block is the first block taught to a beginning student and is considered the standard inward block.
This block generally requires a two (2) step process to be executed (from a non-ready position): 1)the arm is cocked to a higher position than the intended target 2)the block is effected
The exception to the above is when the arm starts from a higher position than the intended target (i.e. a ready position). In such a case, it would require only one (1) step.
Because of the way in which we naturally stand (non-ready position), it is often more economical to use its cousin block instead - the thrusting inward block.
This inward block travels from the same side to the opposite side of the body (inward) - as the blocking arm; and from a higher to lower point (hammering).
The word inward, in this case, is equivalent to inside. |
