Gauging Weapon

The weapon that is used specifically for gauging purposes.

Comments:

Gauging can refer to any weapon, but is most often associated with a hand or foot. And, most typically used when referring to the feet and range.

This term is somewhat generic in that it does not refer to Lead Weapon or Trailing Weapon. It also does indicate type movement, rather only the purpose of the weapon as it relates to the gauging maneuver. Furthermore, it does not specify Close the Gap or Open the Gap, only that the gap is changed.

Generally speaking, the Gauging Weapon determines the overall range between yourself and the opponent(s). This can be accomplished via touch (i.e. via the hands) or through foot maneuvers (i.e. via the feet).

The Gauging Weapon is commonly the minor weapon (e.g. the right hand/foot), with the Lead Weapon being the weapon (e.g. the left hand/foot).

The Gauging Weapon is most commonly the Trailing Weapon for the lower extremities, but the Lead Weapon when referring to the upper extremities.

When referring to the lower extremities, Gauging Weapon is commonly used to Close the Gap between you and the opponent to allow follow-up maneuvers to be Within Contact.
