The Freestyle division of American Kenpo is designed to apply all the elements of the Basics and Self-Defense divisions using unplanned fighting and sparring scenarios.
The major goal of this division is to more closely approximate real-world and unscripted scenarios in an effort to help internalize (see Stages of Internalization) all the information / methods / maneuvers taught in the other divisions.
This division is most closely related to the Formulation Phase (and Real Deal Phase) of the Self-Defense Division, but should not be burdened by that divisions goals.
Although this division is heavy in sparring application, this should not be its sole focus. It is designed to encompass all aspects of combat - not just tournament application.
There are three (3) major divisions of American Kenpo, they are: 1)Basics 3)Freestyle
