The general idea of the Conceptual Box is to help the practitioner develop proper limits to their upper limb maneuvers during training sessions - which should then naturally carry over into combat situations.
The Conceptual Box concept more commonly used in reference with defensive moves.
The Conceptual Box helps the practitioner in developing proper Angles of Execution that are confined to the practical limits of their body.
The Conceptual Box can work from any stance, but is most commonly demonstrated from a horse stance. No matter which stance the Conceptual Box is used with, the Conceptual Box will always maintain a 3:00 - 9:00 (clock) orientation to the Point of Reference.
When the Conceptual Box is used with stances and/or postures other than the horse stance, the box should be thought of as having a hinge on the plane closest to the Point of Reference. This visual aid allows the practitioner to envision the furthest plane maintaining a 3:00 - 9:00 orientation, while the rest of the box resizes and shifts to accomidate the stance and/or posture.
The size of the Conceptual Box will vary with the position and posture of the body, but will always have the same physical reference points.
The physical dimensions of the Conceptual Box are: a.Height - Upper limit: top of the head - Lower Limit: bottom of groin area b.Width - Width of shoulders c.Depth - Close Limit: surface of the body - Furthest Limit: the same distance away from the body as the Conceptual Box is wide
The Conceptual Box is a specific type of Zone Disciplining - which deals solely with the limits of upper limb maneuvers.
The Conceptual Box is essentially the creation of a Zone of Confinement for upper limb maneuvers.
The Conceptual Box differs from the Outer Rim in that the Conceptual Box is rectangular in shape. Other than that, they are essentially the same concept.
The Conceptual Box differs for the Quadrant Zone in that the Conceptual Box is used mainly for the setting of limits of upper body maneuvers. The Conceptual Box can be thought of as the foundational building block of the Quadrant Zone concept. |
