A bear-hug is a specific form of hugging, referring exclusively to the arms being wrapped around the body of the opponent.

 

A bear-hug is often applied with the intent of hindering the opponent's breathing by constricting the body.

 

A bear-hug is sometimes applied to control the opponent's body or body parts.

 

A bear-hug can be applied from any Angle of Attack - i.e. front, back, side.

 

A bear-hug is not limited to any specific direction of application.

 

A bear-hug can be used as an offensive tactic by more than one opponent - where one opponent applies a bear hug, with the intent to hinder defensive maneuvers, while the other opponent takes advantage of the situation.

 

A bear-hug can be created by:

a.Pinning the opponent's arms to the body

b.Leaving the opponent's arms free

c.any combination of the above

 

A bear-hug applied with the legs is referred to as a scissor.
