The Barber Pole Grab take advantage of the fact that to break a grab on must typically pull away toward the grabbing thumb. By threading under the grabbing arm/arm and re-grabbing facing the reverse direction, the Barber Pole Grab reduces the chance that the opponent can break away while you are switching grabbing hands.
The Barber Pole Grab has the advantage of setting the new grabbing hand into a position to be able to rotate the grabbed arm, if so desired.
The combination of the two grabs effectively closes the circle with the intent of preventing the opponent from escaping your grab. |
