Reactionary Set-up

An idiom referring to the Strategic Ploy of creating a reaction from the opponent(s) for the purposes of creating exploitable positioning.

Comments:

A Reactionary Set-up can be created through contact (i.e. blocking, striking, Contact Manipulation, etc.) or through non-physical means (i.e. Psychological Strategy, Psychological Weapon).

Reactionary Set-up differs from Conditioned Response in that the reaction is natural and not purposefully conditioned by you, although one might argue that a Planned Reaction is form of Conditioned Response - just a longer term and more ingrained Conditioned Response.

Reactionary Set-up differs from Momentary Conditioning in the same way that Conditioned Response is, and that the Planned Reaction tends to be more natural.

A Reactionary Set-up can equally be used by you and against you.

Reactionary Set-ups are frequently brought about by Unanticipated Variables against an opponent, but may equally be enacted by Anticipated Variables.

Baiting, Feinting, Framing, and Open the Gate are each methods for creating a potential Reactionary Set-up (through the use of Deceptive Action).

Example(s):

Flinching when someone feints a punch you demonstrates a Reactionary Set-up through non-direct physical means.

Forcing the opponent to bend backward from an upward elbow strike to the chin demonstrates a Reactionary Set-up through physical means (i.e. manipulation).

A.K.A.:

Planned Reaction, Reactionary Anticipation
