Assisted Stabilization

An idiom describing the use of Environmental Objects, other than the ground, to help create a stable base.

Comments:

The use of Environmental Objects to help in creating a stable base should be done with caution. If the practitioner were to anticipate an Environmental Objectto be stable and the Environmental Object, in reality, turns out to be unstable, this could jeopardize one's ability to defend and attack adequately - and in turn, could lead to defeat.

It is even more highly recommended that the practitioner not use the opponent as a means of establishing a stable base.  The opponent at any time could move, collapse, or otherwise take advantage of the situation - leaving one at a great disadvantage.

Some common Environmental Objects used to stabilize the practitioner's base are:

a.Cane, Walking Stick, Bo, Mono pod, or some other type of stick

b.Wall

c.Chair

Example(s):

The use of a walking stick to execute a flying kick would demonstrate Assisted Stabilization.

As an example of how this could easily become a disastrous move - if the stick were to be unable to support the practitioner's weight and break during the execution of the move, the practitioner would fall to the ground, possibly leaving them in a vulnerable position, and even possibly injuring them self.
