Settle (Body Maneuver)

A specific form of a Body Maneuver which is physically distinguishable by slightly lowering into a stance for the purpose of enhanced stabilization and/or enhancing an accompanying maneuver.

Comments:

Settling is often referred to as a Body Settle.

Settling is a form of Body English.

Technically speaking, the legs are the primary activator of a settle, but this motion is often accompanied by a physical change in the body musculature - either by tightening or loosening the supporting structure. This is done to further enhance this maneuver.

Because the legs are the primary activator of this maneuver, it could be argued that the settle is a Foot Maneuver. But it is included as a Body Maneuver because there is no measurable (horizontal) change in gap created by the maneuver via the feet.

Settling is most commonly done to enhance the delivery of some other upper and/or lower extremity maneuver - such as a punch, elbow, buckle, knee, etc.

Settling is often used to enhance the Power Principle of Gravitational Marriage.

Settling can be activated in two distinct ways:

1.lowering the stance by bending at the knees

2.slightly picking the feet up simultaneously from the ground and allowing the body to catch up

The second method is a variation on launching and (just like launching) can be used to enhance offensive maneuvers by including the entire mass of the body into the maneuver through subtlety in motion (i.e. Body English).

Settling is the opposite of launching in that they both are used primarily to enhance an accompanying maneuver, but differ in that settling uses (primarily) the dimension of height to effect its outcome (in-place), while launching uses (primarily) the dimension of depth to effect its outcome (via a Foot Maneuver).
