The Self-Defense division of American Kenpo is designed to teach the strategies, concepts, ideas, rules, theories, and principles of the art primarily through the Self-Defense Techniques.

Self-Defense Techniques are predefined maneuver sets (Base Moves) against a given attacks.

There are three (3) major divisions of American Kenpo, they are:
