False Travel

An idiom describing a  the false believe that minor travel within a delivered weapon enhances and/or maximizes the primary (aka main, major) travel of that weapon's execution.

Comments:

False travel is the first person, incorrect belief that motions other than the motion for delivery of a weapon are executed to increase the delivery of that weapon, when in fact, that motion is potentially used for other purposes.

It is common that the false travel is longer than the main travel.

It is common that the false travel is used for alignment purposes, rather than delivery purposes.

It is not uncommon that the false travel is somewhat necessary motion and not completely wasted motion.

Example(s):

If the practitioner were to deliver a straight elbow from a natural stance, the total movement of the hand, which is a further distance than the delivery travel of the elbow, is commonly mistaken to help in the maximizing of the delivery motion. When, in fact, this motion can be categorized as alignment motion; which is used in the proper formation of the weapon, not the delivery of the weapon.
