Downward (Block)

A specific category of Striking block which is physically distinguishable by the downward direction (in relation to the practitioner) of its movement in order to effect the block.

Comments:

Downward blocks travel from the upper part of the practitioner's body to the lower part, irrelevant to the orientation of their body - thus downward in relation to the practitioner, not the environment.

Downward blocks can travel from the same side to the opposite side of the body (inside) or from the opposite side to the same side of the body (outside) - as the blocking arm.

By definition, downward blocks employ a hammering method of execution.

Derivation:

This block derives its name from the fact that it travels in a downward direction.
