Comments:

This analogy is used help explain what the general purpose of each of the American Kenpo forms and how they fit together in an easy to explain and comprehend grouping.

This analogy is illustrated as follows:

1)Dictionary - meaning to define motion

2)Encyclopedia - meaning to illustrate information about motion

3)Appendix - meaning to explore information on a specific topic further

As stated above the dictionary nomenclature is meant to distill down the main purpose of the beginning forms - to define motion. That descriptive term can be refined further by specifying that this means (in a practical sense) emphasizing the physical over the conceptual.

The Dictionary Forms consist of the following forms:

Short Form One / Long Form One

Short Form Two / Long Form Two

As stated above the encyclopedic nomenclature is meant to distill down the main purpose of the upper forms - to expand upon information. That descriptive term can be refined further by specifying that this means (in a practical sense) emphasizing the conceptual over the physical. Furthermore, this section can be divided into two (2) groupings: Encyclopedia / Extension.

The splitting of this section into two (2) groups tries to illustrate further the defining composition of the forms within this group. The first group being major conceptual advancements, and the second being extending into specialized concepts.

The Encyclopedia Forms consist of the following forms:

Short Form Three / Long Form Three

Form Four

Extension

Form Five

Form Six

Form Seven

As stated above the appendix nomenclature is meant to distill down the main purpose of the sets - to delve further into and focus on specific topics. The Appendix Forms consist of all the sets.

See Forms and Sets sections for more information.
