A predefined series of maneuvers, practiced together as a routine for the purpose of illustrating and demonstrating: the concepts, rules, and principles of motion; and that everything has a reverse and an opposite.

Forms are part of the Basics division of American Kenpo. More specifically, they are the moving basics.

 

In American Kenpo, forms are dictionaries and encyclopedias to the study of motion. See Analogy - Dictionary / Encyclopedia / Appendix for more information.

 

Although technically distinct within American Kenpo, set can somewhat be used interchangeably with form. See set for more information.

 

In general, a form can be considered an index of maneuvers designed to convey specific pieces of information and/or show combat situations.

 

In American Kenpo, forms can be broken down into the following types:

a.Forms 1 and 2 (Dictionary Form)

b.Forms 3 and above (Encyclopedia Form)

c.Sets (Appendix Form)

 

In American Kenpo, the major forms (Forms 1 and above) can be broken down into the following types:

a.Short Form

b.Long Form

 

In American Kenpo, forms are designed to show:

a.The rules and principles of motion

b.That everything has a reverse and an opposite

c.To give an example of #2
