An idiom describing the positioning in relation to the opponent at which the major portion of offensive and/or defensive moves are executed when performing a self-defense technique. |

Zone of Action specifically refers to the positioning of the defender in relation to the opponent (between arms, outside left, inside right, etc...) that the majority of maneuvers of a self-defense technique occur.
This concept can be extended to include multiple attackers, but is most commonly used in reference to a single attacker.
It should be noted that the Zone of Action is not necessarily fixed throughout the execution of the maneuvers.
Zone of Action has nothing to do with range, but can be used in conjunction with it.
The Zone of Action is often limited to the following descriptive combinations in relationship to a given arm (or both arms): inside / outside / on / on top of / underneath / between |
