Grip of Death

Maneuver(s) / Topic / Issue

-

Improvement

1)

Transition (Step-thru + Hammer-fists + Head Turn)

Coordination

Improper hand / head / foot maneuver timing

-

Correct timing:

·Hammer-fists should be timed to conclude simultaneously with the settle into the kneel stance

·Head turn should occur with the start of the foot maneuver

Improper maneuver conclusion

-

Hammer-fists should conclude at potential point of contact (hammer / thrust) and not ricochet (snap) from contact point

Execution - Execution Angle

Improper execution direction

-

Entire technique should be executed on the diagonal line (10:30H-4:30H) and not the major line (12:00H-6:00H)

Improper foot reposition

-

Step should conclude on the right (12:00H) side of the diagonal line (10:30H-4:30H) (so the next maneuver has proper alignments without further foot adjustments)

Execution - Alignment

Lean of stance (forward)

-

Stance should be bent at waist (not leaning) with weight distribution 50%-50%

Improper execution alignments

-

Correct hammer-fist alignments:

·rotation - hammer-fists should conclude with side of fists facing each other

·height - hammer-fists should conclude at relative waist height (almost touching each other)

·depth - hammer-fists should extend just past elbow depth

·width - hammer-fists should be aligned relatively vertically to one another (optionally offset slightly to the potential target areas)

Gaze

Improper angle

-

Attention should be directed (behind) over right shoulder (not down at floor)

Maneuver(s) / Topic / Issue

-

Improvement

2a)

Finger hook

Coordination

Improper maneuver conclusion

-

Finger hook should remain as distinct maneuver (not merged with the following maneuvers) - although this maneuver should flow smoothly into the following maneuvers

Execution - Weapon Formation

Improper hand formation

-

Right pinky and ring finger should be bent (at middle-knuckle), the index finger and middle finger should be kept straight, and the thumb should be tucked to side of hand (index finger should be used to back-up middle finger in next maneuver)

Improper hand formation

-

Left hand should be converted into check (not remain in hammer-fist formation)

Execution - Execution

Improper weapon execution height

-

Finger hook should be executed to relative head height

Maneuver(s) / Topic / Issue

-

Improvement

2b)

Finger lever / Heel-palm

Coordination

Improper hand / arm / stance rotation timing

-

Correct timing:

·right elbow drop and finger lever should be timed to coincide and conclude simultaneously with the stance rotation into transitory horse stance

·heel-palm should be timed to conclude simultaneously with the settle into the forward bow

Improper maneuver conclusion

-

Right finger lever should conclude in a vertical alignment (not merged with the following maneuver - i.e., positioned behind body)

Execution - Alignment

Improper pivot point

-

Right arm primary pivot point should be at elbow

Improper body rotation

-

Entire body (and left foot) should be rotated to diagonal line (10:30H-4:30H) into forward bow stance

Improper execution alignment

-

Heel-palm should be executed in-line with and just under the finger lever

Lean of stance (forward)

-

Back should be kept relatively perpendicular to the ground throughout execution of maneuvers

Execution - Weapon Formation

Improper hand formation

-

Right hand should conclude retaining shape of finger lever (optionally may be converted into "shape of crane")
