Fatal Cross

Maneuver(s) / Topic / Issue

-

Improvement

1a)

Transition (Cat Stance + Parries)

Coordination

Improper hand / foot maneuver timing

-

Parries should be timed to conclude simultaneously with the settle into the cat stance

Execution - Execution Angle

Improper execution direction

-

Entire technique should be executed on the diagonal line (10:30H-4:30H) and not the major line (12:00H-6:00H)

Improper execution angle

-

Parries should be executed on a path relatively parallel to the floor (3:00V-9:00V)

Execution - Alignment

Improper stance alignments

-

Correct cat stance dimensional alignments:

·toe / heel (width)

·1.5 foot lengths from ball of foot to rear heel (depth)

·supporting leg bent comfortably (height)

Improper arm alignment

-

Parries should conclude with hands and elbows at the same relative height from floor

Lean of stance (forward)

-

Back should be kept relatively perpendicular to the ground upon completion of maneuver

Execution - Path

Improper execution path

-

Parries should be executed on a strictly linear path (and not an outwardly arching path) with hands and elbows remaining relatively parallel to each other throughout the entire execution of the parrying maneuver

Execution - Weapon Formation

Improper hand formation

-

Fingers and thumb should be bent such that they form a tight circle touching each other at the tips (and pointing downward)

Gaze

Improper head bend

-

Gaze and head should remain parallel to floor (Bend of head should not occur until next maneuver)

Maneuver(s) / Topic / Issue

-

Improvement

1b)

Middle-knuckle Strikes

Coordination

Improper head / hand / foot maneuver timing

-

The head and hand maneuvers should be timed to conclude simultaneously with the settle into the neutral bow

Execution - Execution Angle

Improper execution direction

-

Middle-knuckles should be executed relatively parallel to floor (and not on an upward, diagonal angle)

Execution - Alignment

Improper arm alignment

-

Middle-knuckles should conclude with hands and elbows at the same relative height from floor

Lean of stance (forward)

-

Back should be kept relatively perpendicular to the ground upon completion of maneuver (not bent forward, like head)

Execution - Weapon Formation

Improper hand formation

-

Thumbs should be tucked under partially extended middle finger knuckles (creating brace angle) with fist tightly griped at potential contact point

Gaze

Improper angle

-

Eyes should be looking straight ahead and parallel to the floor (not looking down at floor)

Maneuver(s) / Topic / Issue

-

Improvement

2)

Back-knuckle Strikes

Execution - Execution Angle

Improper execution direction

-

Back-knuckles should be executed to head height (at an upward, diagonal angle)

Execution - Alignment

Improper weapon contact point

-

wrists should be slightly bent backward such that back-knuckles make contact with each other at the back tip of the first two knuckles of fists (not back of the hands)

Maneuver(s) / Topic / Issue

-

Improvement

3)

Finger Slices

Execution - Execution Angle

Improper execution direction

-

Slices should follow the same execution path of the back-knuckle strikes

Execution - Alignment

Improper hand rotation

-

Hands should be rotated such that palms face downward (12:00V-6:00V) (not on a diagonal - like back-knuckles)

Execution - Weapon Formation

Improper hand formation

-

Pinky and ring finger should be bent (at middle-knuckle), the index finger should be kept straight, the middle finger is bent slightly such that it extends to the same length as the index finger, and the thumb should be tucked to side of hand (index finger should be used to back-up middle finger upon potential contact)
