Pass-line is something to be avoided on your part, but something to exploit on the opponent.
Pass-line is considered a Position of Opportunity for either you (First Point of View) or your opponent (Second Point of View).
A Pass-line is usually created through a combination of not properly Anchoring a limb (i.e. the arm/elbow) and/or Over Rotation of the body. This improper positioning allows the opponent to use a free weapon to press against your limb and cause rotation to the point that it checks off both arms and thus controlling your Width Zone. The pressing of your limb can be against your body and rotating your whole body (less common) or simply pressing the limb in the direction of your (front) Center-line to a point where they have relative control of your width (more common).
A Pass-line is typically always created with the upper body, although technically this is not a requirement of the definition.
From a particular perspective, a Pass-line (i.e. the impetus) can be construed as triggering a Pressing Check, Pinning Check or other form of Contact Manipulation (i.e. the result) from the opponent. |
