This variation is generally considered destructive.
The hand shaping of the final maneuver of the isolation is varied from thumbs bent over the palms to thumbs retracted to the side of the hand. This variation is accomplished by executing the final maneuver of the isolation (#4) with hands shaped like hand-swords, rather than with thumbs extended and bent in front of the palms of the hands. This variation basically comes down to an argument of obfuscation over proper formation.
Rationale For
Executing the final maneuver with the thumbs bent over the palms highlights and purposely demonstrates the information contained within the isolation. This proper hand formation can be used to reinforce the information contained in the maneuver to the practitioner. Otherwise, this information may be overlooked and/or potentially lost from the system. Also, it is the correct hand formation for this maneuver and is not demonstrated elsewhere.
Rationale Against
Executing the final maneuver with the hands in the shape of a hand-sword purposely hides the information from an observer. Hiding information is not exclusive to this maneuver and is demonstrated in other forms of the system. Transfer of the information about the purpose of this maneuver is deliberately placed squarely upon the instructor. Also, this final maneuver is executed simultaneously, where in a real situation the maneuver would be executed in sequence, thus already hiding some information. So, unless the timing of the sequence is also adjusted one might as well obfuscate all of the information.
