This variation is generally considered destructive.
When the foot maneuver that alters the width of the horse stance at the transition from Dominating Circles to the isolation can vary. This variation is accomplished by changing the timing of when the foot maneuver that corrects the width of the horse stance that transitions from Dominating Circles to the isolation is executed. This adjustment can be done with the retraction into the horse from the final maneuver of Dominating Circles (#2); after obtaining the retracted horse stance (#3), but before the isolation hand maneuvers; or with the beginning of the isolation hand maneuvers.
Rationale for (and against) adjustment with retraction
This variation has more economical timing than the isolated foot maneuver and does not interfere with the isolation of the upper body in the following maneuvers. But it also does not display the lower body isolation that can be obtained with a different timing.
Rationale for (and against) adjustment after retraction
This variation better isolates the adjustment and clearly highlights it to the practitioner, but it also adds an extra (potentially unnecessary) maneuver to the form. One may then counter argue that this is purposeful and displays a lower body isolation as an opposite to the following upper body isolation. A further counter argument could then be made that this new piece of information was never intended to be put into the form.
Rationale for (and against) adjustment with the following isolation maneuvers
This variation has more economical timing than the extra motion of the isolated foot maneuver, but it does detract from the full isolation of the upper body for the following maneuvers. This would result in the first maneuver of the following isolation not being correctly classified as a true part of the isolation. Also, it does not display the lower body isolation that can be obtained with a different timing.
