The flame symbol was first created by Edmund K. Parker for the International Karate Championships and placed as the most prominent characteristic of the patch given out to all participants of this tournament.
The defining characteristic of the flame is the three tiers (3) which can represent: Comparisons of Motion (e.g. Mechanic of Motion, Salesman of Motion, Engineer of Motion) Three (3) Stages of Internalization Three (3) States of Motion Three (3) levels of black belt ( e.g. instructor, professor, master)
The flame was chosen because of its many parallels with the qualities of the martial arts, as illustrated above; and many others, such as: lethality, beauty, and utility. |
