Flame

A symbolic idiom created to illustrate never ending cooperation, friendship, and brotherhood amongst all the martial arts and their practitioners.

Comments:

The flame symbol was first created by Edmund K. Parker for the International Karate Championships and placed as the most prominent characteristic of the patch given out to all participants of this tournament.

The defining characteristic of the flame is the three tiers which represent the three stages of learning (e.g. primitive, mechanical, spontaneous).

The flame was chosen because of its many parallels with the qualities of the martial arts, such as: lethality, beauty, and utility.
